Cantors are vocal soloists who lead congregational singing at Masses throughout the year. Their duties include proclaiming the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation, as well as guiding the congregation in the singing and chanting of hymns and parts of the Mass. Cantors are accompanied by the organ, piano, or guitar.
St. Patrick Catholic Church is home to three wonderful choirs:
The Children’s Choir sings during the school year (September to May) and introduces children to the art of sung liturgies. The Children’s Choir focuses on the basics of singing and helps children become more comfortable with music-making. Students in 2nd through 7th grade are encouraged to participate. Rehearsals are once weekly, and students sing at various Masses from September to May.
The Adult Choir gives parishioners the opportunity to join in fellowship while upholding the musical traditions of the Catholic Church. The Adult Choir sings for the 9:30 am Mass from September to May and rehearses Wednesdays at 7:30 pm. Choir members sing hymns, choral music, and basic Gregorian chants in a fun and welcoming environment.
The Ensemble Choir leads worship at 11:30 am Sunday Masses throughout the year. Parishioners are welcome to join the group as instrumentalists and/or singers. The music often features harmony singing, piano, guitar, and other instruments. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed. If you are interested in joining this group or if you wish to share a comment, please feel free to drop by after a Mass or email the music minister: mikeniklas@outlook.com
* Instrumentalists
Throughout the year, instrumentalists provide valuable musical enhancements to the more solemn feasts of the Church. Trumpets, flutes, strings, and clarinets are all welcome additions to any of the musical ensembles listed above.
Student instrumentalists who have taken at least four years of private lessons or currently play in a high school band are welcome to share their gifts with St. Patrick Parish. Experienced adult players are also welcome.
